History

Red Rocks’ massive sandstone monoliths are truly spectacular. One, called Ship Rock due to its vessel-like form, and another one called Creation Rock are taller than Niagara Falls and belong to a geological formation called Fountain Formation which dates back billions of years before today’s Rockies were ever present.

Before Europeans came to America, this area was used by the Ute tribe for centuries; but music lovers truly began appreciating its potential when John Brisben Walker started producing concerts on temporary platforms in the early 1900s. Notable performers at this legendary site include The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead among many others who raved about performing there.

Seating

Outdoor venue with stunning natural surroundings and singular acoustics that stands alone in terms of both ambiance and sound quality, offering concerts that feature general admission with rows of head-on seating that extend up to 70 feet from the stage.

Blankets must not exceed 40″x 60″. Nonalcoholic beverages in factory sealed plastic containers may also be allowed unless specifically prohibited by the show. Binoculars are recommended if you wish to get closer views of performers.

Parking

Arrive early when visiting for concerts or hiking trails to take full advantage of pre-show festivities and tailgating opportunities. Parking lots open two hours prior to venue doors opening for concerts and fill up quickly during these shows; arriving early gives you plenty of time for pre-show festivities and tailgating fun!

Be mindful that both parks and amphitheatre are at high elevations. Stay hydrated and pace yourself accordingly, being aware of any prohibited items or smoke policies.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre not only delights music enthusiasts with unforgettable concerts, but it also tantalizes taste buds with delicious food and drink offerings ranging from concession stand treats to gourmet creations – offering something delicious for every palette.

Factory-sealed non-alcoholic beverages up to 32 ounces and fitting into your soft-sided hydration backpack or small cooler are allowed into the venue, in addition to any permitted alcohol options at the location.

So long as it’s allowed by the show, you may bring along your phone and small camera to record memories from your evening. Full-face coverings are not permitted. Morris & Mae Market serves mouthwatering cuisine inspired by Colorado-grown ingredients – an excellent place for pre-show dining!
