Morgan Wallen won season 6 of The Voice and quickly scored a recording deal with Nashville-based Big Loud Records. His debut album Dangerous quickly reached #1 and spent an incredible 86 weeks at No. 1.
Sneedville native Danica Patrick has not been spared from controversy either. Recently, he was disinvited from SNL after videos surfaced of him drinking shots and kissing fans in violation of COVID-19 guidelines.
Dangerous
Morgan Wallen has found himself in an unfortunate predicament following the collapse of his crossover aspirations, an on-camera racist comment, and other incidents. At 27 years old, Wallen remains one of America’s most beloved musicians with songs topping both country music charts and the cross-genre Hot 100 chart. His second album Dangerous debuted at No.1 on Billboard 200 in 2022 and its singles have performed exceptionally across various platforms and radio formats.
Attempting to please everyone’s musical tastes while simultaneously expanding beyond Nashville’s sepia-tinged party-country paradigm can be an uphill battle, but this collection of 30 songs from a son of a Baptist pastor with peak Billy Ray Cyrus mullet wearer succeeds in doing just that with panache – creating an album with tracks spanning country, pop rock and beyond!
One Thing at a Time
One Thing at a Time is Morgan Wallen’s third album and follows Dangerous which debuted in March 2023 and quickly became his most listened-to track of all time. The 36 track collection displays impressive craftsmanship while exploring multiple approaches.
At its best, this album‘s strongest songs–such as title track “Single Than She Was,” and acoustic gospel number like “Born With a Beer in My Hand”–explore familiar themes with more thoughtful consideration than many of his radio singles.
Wallen’s openness and adaptability creates an engaging project, hitting all its marks perfectly. No wonder he has built his career around his distinctive voice, distinctive raspy twang, and self-proclaimed outlaw persona; captivating audiences with songs that tell their own stories while creating emotional connections between songs that tell a tale or convey emotion is something he excels at doing!
The Way I Talk
Morgan Wallen performed at Atlanta’s Truist Park during a sold-out show, crouching down close to his ardent fans, who thrust albums, boots and cardboard signs his way – they in turn thrust albums, boots and cardboard signs back for autographing; all while smiling broadly for selfies.
The crowd’s excitement serves as a testament to his success since his 2015 debut single, “Why Wait,” debuted at No. 1. His second album Dangerous became country music‘s best-selling release of 2021.
But in April, minutes before his scheduled performance at Vaught Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, 45,000 fans learned of Wallen’s voice-loss and cancellation. Although he later apologized and promised to donate proceeds from ticket refunds to organizations like Black Music Action Coalition; nevertheless the incident left many frustrated, including fellow country musicians like Mickey Guyton who challenged racism in country music via a February tweet thread.
Love You Like a Man
Morgan Wallen, an award-winning country singer, knows exactly how to connect with his fans. On his One Night at a Time world tour he sold over one million tickets and donated three dollars from each US ticket sold towards his foundation. Furthermore he released three chart-topping albums and is an acclaimed songwriter.
“Last Night” hitmaker Paul Simon is widely known for his outgoing personality and often makes headlines for his behavior off stage. Most notably, in October 2020 he caused controversy when he consumed drinks with audience members prior to performing on Saturday Night Live and did not follow social distancing guidelines; later apologizing, he went on stage alongside Jason Bateman to perform in a skit skit with them on that show.
In April 2023, he cancelled a concert in Mississippi due to losing his voice, and announced the following month he would undergo extended vocal rest due to this injury. Subsequently, six weeks of his tour were cancelled for this same reason.
