Norah Jones – Singer, Songwriter and Musician

Norah Jones is a multi-platinum, Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter and musician who made waves with her debut album Come Away With Me which blended jazz, pop and country music. Currently living in New York City with her husband and two children; Norah remains very private about her personal life and does not disclose their names publicly.

She is a singer-songwriter

Norah Jones has quickly earned her place among music’s elite thanks to her soothing voice and jazzy style. Born of Beatles-influenced sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, Norah’s distinctive musical voice draws elements from country, folk, Americana, light jazz, modern rock music and beyond.

Jones released four more successful albums following Come Away With Me in 2002: Feels Like Home (2004), Not Too Late (2007), Little Broken Hearts (2012) and Day Breaks (2016).

She has collaborated with several artists, such as Mavis Staples, Jeff Tweedy, Rodrigo Amarante, Thomas Bartlett and Brian Blade.

Norah has graced more than fifty albums by other musicians, as well as written several film and TV scores for film/TV productions. She currently resides in New York City and homeschools her children. Norah is a nine-time GRAMMY winner who has sold over 53 million records worldwide; additionally she starred as Wong Kar-Wai’s Blueberry Nights actress.

Jones was born in New York City to Ravi Shankar, an acclaimed Indian sitarist who played for The Beatles and many Western musicians, including Joni Mitchell. At an early age she began to learn piano and guitar before progressing onto singing and winning nine Grammy Awards along the way; since then she has sold 52 million albums worldwide with duet recordings with various artists as well as making appearances on TV and film including My Blueberry Nights by director Wong Kar Wai.

Norah Jones recently unveiled Visions, her ninth studio project. Featuring 12 songs that express feelings of freedom and acceptance, Visions serves as an antidote to her 2020 release Pick Me Up Off The Floor which captured pandemic lockdown emotions. Additionally, Norah took an active part in songwriting process for this album by co-writing six of its tracks herself or writing them alone.

She has a band

Since her debut album, Come Away With Me, was released in 2002, Norah Jones has maintained both an artistic focus and steady career. A nine-time Grammy award recipient, Jones has explored multiple genres such as jazz, folk and country while working with such notable musicians as rapper Logic and Anoushka Shankar (her half sister).

Visions will be released by Jones on March 8. Co-produced by Leon Michels, this record serves as an antidote to her previous original songs record – Pick Me Up Off The Floor released during COVID-19 pandemic lockdown of 2020.

Jones’ smooth, soulful vocals are at the core of her new album. She is joined by an excellent ensemble of musicians such as drummer Andrew Borger, bassist Lee Alexander, guitarists Adam Levy and Kevin Breit, plus guest vocalist Daru Oda as well as saxophonists Dan Auerbach and Lee Fields – an impressive lineup indeed!

Born Geetali Norah Shankar to former concert promoter Sue Jones and Indian sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, Norah was mostly raised by her mother until age nine when she finally saw him more regularly. While attending church choir services and piano lessons initially, jazz became her passion; attending Interlochen Arts Camp as well as Booker T. Washington High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas became key components in her education.

Norah remains grounded despite her immense success and prefers not to reveal details about her personal life such as who is in her husband and children’s families.
