Matt Rife – Rising Star in the Comedy Industry

  • by

Matt Rife is an up-and-coming comedian and actor best known for his TikTok comedy clips. Additionally, he has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies.

His new Netflix special has raised much controversy with its jokes about domestic violence, prompting questions as to whether comedy can still be effective when targeting vulnerable groups of people.

About Matt Rife

Matt Rife has already shown extraordinary talent across acting and stand-up comedy, making an incredible impactful mark with both acting roles and stand-up performances. With Dave Chappelle as an idol and all that entails for an outstanding comedic actor and stand-up performer alike he seems poised to become one of today’s leading comedy figures.

Matt began performing stand up when he was 15 and hasn’t stopped since. Since then he’s traveled the country performing alongside legendary comedians such as DL Hughley, Ralphie May, Dane Cook and others. In 2021 he released his one-hour special called OnlyFans that highlighted him bringing his “A” game on stage.

Rife quickly rose to fame after videos of his sets and audience interactions went viral on TikTok, leading to numerous gigs and his first Netflix special. Unfortunately, Rife made headlines again when his joke referred to domestic violence – it made reference to a waitress at a ratchet Baltimore restaurant who had suffered black eye. This provoked widespread outrage online as it was perceived as insensitive.

TikTok

TikTok, owned by technology company ByteDance and created as part of social media platform ByteDance, debuted on the scene in 2016. It combines elements from Vine and Instagram Stories with Snapchat-style filters and provides users with a platform for lip-syncing or dancing videos. Furthermore, TikTok allows users to collaborate on creating split-screen duet videos even when not in physical proximity to each other.

Teens are drawn to this app because it caters to their sense of humor, allows them to express their creativity freely, and provides trend updates and viral news updates. But it comes with its own set of challenges; young minds tend to seek stimulation and rewards, which increases risk-taking tendencies which could potentially cause serious physical or mental harm or even self-harm.

One particularly risky challenge is the “choking” or pass-out challenge, in which several teens have died by inhaling chemicals that deprive their brain of oxygen. TikTok users embraced this challenge heavily during 2022 and ultimately led ByteDance to face a lawsuit from their daughter’s mother for damages caused by this practice.

Natural Selection

At its core, natural selection is an elegant theory that provides an explanation for why living things have evolved to fit their environments so perfectly. But understanding its workings and implications is often far more complex than people imagine – often compounded by misperceptions fueled by inaccurate educational materials.
