Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Amphitheatre’s remarkable acoustics make it one of the premier venues for musicians to perform, drawing legendary acts such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, U2 and John Denver to perform here over time.

On days without concerts, the park serves as an inviting gathering spot for locals and tourists to work out or take in its picturesque views.

History

Red Rocks’ captivating geological formations have long captured visitors’ attention, from dinosaur fossils found here to its legendary natural acoustics and legendary amphitheater cliffside amphitheater seating capacity. No surprise then that Red Rocks became sacred ground for Ute Tribe and as western expansion occurred other groups found beauty and uniqueness within these impressive rocks.

John Brisben Walker began arranging concerts on a temporary stage between Ship and Creation Rock during the early 1900s, dubbing this area the Garden of Titans and drawing music lovers from near and far to his performances.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre was officially established as an outdoor theater by the City of Denver when they purchased Walker’s land in 1936, using Colorado architect Burnham Hoyt’s modernist designs constructed using laborers from Civilian Conservation Corps during Great Depression era. Since then, music fans have flocked to see their favorite artists perform and take in breathtaking surroundings of this world-class entertainment venue.

Seating options

No matter where your seat choice falls on the spectrum – from intimate front row seating to expansive upper deck views, each section can offer its own special experience. When making your selection, consider your budget, desired view and proximity to the stage when determining which seats best suit you.

Make sure to explore all of the amenities at your venue before the show begins, from restrooms located throughout to concession stands with snacks and beverages available, to merchandise stands featuring artist memorabilia.

Film On The Rocks nights offer the opportunity to relax while reclining on Red Rocks lawn with classic and cult films, perfect for film buffs of all kinds! Bring along a blanket for added comfort while relaxing under the stars! For maximum viewing pleasure bring sealed nonalcoholic beverages.

Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre stands at an altitude of 6,450 feet, so plan for an ascent to reach its entrances. Wear comfortable shoes and bring ample water – this might seem obvious, but many concert goers forget to stay hydrated at such high elevations!

Weather

As an outdoor venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre can be affected by Colorado’s unpredictable climate. Concert-goers should be wary of potential sunburn and lightning risks during performances at this venue; sunblock should also be worn for maximum protection. During an August show in 1989, singer Crystal Gayle endured one of the heaviest downpours ever witnessed at this site while performing for 30 minutes while someone held an umbrella over her head!

Many were injured in this incident, sparking debate about who was to blame. While some claimed the venue should do more to safeguard its guests’ welfare, others maintained it is unfair to hold management liable for individual patrons’ decisions during extreme weather events. Although warnings and advice to seek shelter were given by management prior to storm hitting, many people were unaware of its severity until too late; many others did not follow advice to seek refuge either – serving as a reminder that water can be an unforgiving force.

Parking

Red Rocks Park provides more than just concerts set against stunning, red-toned rock formations – it also offers hiking trails, wildlife habitats, and a fascinating geological history that you won’t find elsewhere.

Parking at the amphitheater fills quickly, so it is vital to arrive early if you want a spot. With several lots available – each offering different advantages – Upper North Lot is closest to the venue with beautiful views but requires walking downhill before walking back uphill after each show.

If you can’t make it in time for the show, Red Rocks offers public transit or shuttle services that allow visitors to park their car and use public transit or shuttle services instead. Please remember that any vehicles left at Red Rocks after an event must be cleared out by 10 am the day after it takes place; this helps maintain safety and security and prevent towing charges from being issued against your car.
